Serums can be confusing to a lot of people, they are on the expensive side and most claim to do something different. So if you are one of those that aren’t sure what exactly a serum can do, you are not alone. Welcome to the place where you’ll find all you need to know about a face serum, get comfortable and read on!
In skincare, a serum is a product that goes after the cleanser but before the moisturizer. It is made to penetrate deeper into the skin and acting on specific concerns with high concentration actives.
Even when a serum has moisturizing ingredients, it is just to help skin retain moisture, it doesn’t replace a traditional moisturizer. It also isn’t the same as a face oil because serums are mostly water-based. If a serum is oil-based, it has bigger particles and should go on top of the moisturizer instead of under it.
As serums are really potent, keep in mind that sometimes less is more. Some ingredients could irritate sensible skin, but there are serums for everyone, depending on your skin type.
WHY SHOULD YOU USE A SERUM?
A serum is considered an essential by most experts. This comes from the fact that they have potent formulations and targeted results. You could get a personalised treatment by choosing if you want your serum to treat dark spots, wrinkles, large pores, fine lines, or whatever comes to mind.
These wonderful liquids are often filled with antioxidants, replenishing and restoring ingredients.
And because of their texture, serums can be added to your skincare routine without changing much.
They can even be layered with other serums, so if you’d wish to treat more than one thing, a serum lets you achieve it in an easy way.
THE RIGHT WAY TO USE IT
To get the most out of your serum, it’s best to make sure you are applying it correctly.
Cleanse. If your skin is not washed properly, the serum’s ingredients might stick to dirt and dead skin. Use lukewarm water to ensure your pores don’t close and your skin doesn’t perspire.
Apply it before drying. Moist skin absorbs better than dry skin, that’s why applying a serum with damp skin could lead to a quicker and deeper absorption.
Open your hand. Using an open palm, instead of fingertips, to apply your serum, will release active ingredients.
Wait. After applying your serum, wait around 5 minutes before adding a moisturizer. A good serum should not leave a sticky feeling, after a few minutes it should be fully absorbed.
Don’t go for pretty. Colours and fragrance don’t always mean better. At Sepai we don’t add unnecessary ingredients to give our products a nice finish, all of our fragrances and colours are natural and com from something beneficial.
